Abstract

Subject visual vertical-horizontal (SVV-H) is well known as a quick, easy and sensitive otolith function test especially in acute stage and widely used in dizziness clinic. In compensated unilateral vestibulopathy, SVV-H shows decreased deviation losing its clinical role. Vibration applied either to neck muscle or mastoid bone can elicit nystagmus showing vestibular tonic imbalance even after compensation. Likewise, SVV-H test with vibration accentuates abnormal deviation and reveal chronic unilateral vestibular function loss. SVV-H can be sensitive test not only in acute but also after compensation, if used with vibration.
